History

Established in 2006 and relaunched in December 2010, UANativeNet has evolved into a leading initiative born out of the needs assessment of the World Wide Web. Formerly known as Arizona NativeNet, the University of Arizona's collaborative project with the Native Peoples Technical Assistance Office and Native Nations Institute for Leadership, Management, and Policy aims to address the lack of centralized, comprehensive resources on indigenous law and policy. Initially drawing 1,000 hits monthly, predominantly from tribal members, attorneys, and students, the platform has grown to become an essential hub for those seeking in-depth materials related to federal Indian law and policy.

In 2021, a significant milestone was reached with the launch of the Office of Native American Advancement and Tribal Engagement (NAATE). Operating under the Executive Office of the President, NAATE oversees university efforts to enhance the success of Native American students, promote tribal interests, and build programs and research capacity to meet the unique needs of Native nations. This groundbreaking office collaborated seamlessly with UANativeNet initiatives, further strengthening the commitment to advancing Native American education and engagement.

Our history is marked by continuous growth, responsive updates, and a commitment to bridging gaps in education and support for tribal nations and indigenous communities. This collaborative spirit underscores our dedication to creating a meaningful impact on Native American advancement through education and tribal engagement.
