IPLP App Community Guidelines

The Indigenous Peoples Law & Policy Program (IPLP) App is a professional community space for approved IPLP members to connect, collaborate, share opportunities, and support Indigenous Peoples’ rights worldwide. These Community Guidelines apply to all App users and supplement the IPLP App Privacy Notice, Support information, and Account Deletion policy.

1. Community access and account roles

The App has two access levels:

  • Approved Members may use member-only community features, including Discussions, posts and replies, direct messaging, and expanded profile features.
  • Guests have limited access to public App content and limited profile-editing options. Guests may not use member-only Discussions, post replies, or direct messaging.

All accounts are subject to review and approval. Access may be restricted, suspended, or revoked when an account, profile, or activity does not comply with these Guidelines or the App’s terms and policies.

2. Respectful participation

Use the App with professionalism, care, and respect for Indigenous Peoples, communities, cultures, identities, knowledge, and sovereignty.

Do not post, send, or otherwise share content that is:

  • Harassing, threatening, abusive, discriminatory, hateful, defamatory, or intended to intimidate another person.
  • Sexually explicit, obscene, or exploitative.
  • False, misleading, impersonating, or presented as verified fact when it is not.
  • Spam, repetitive, promotional, or unrelated to the IPLP community.
  • Confidential, private, restricted, or shared without the permission of the person or community concerned.
  • Infringing on another person’s privacy, intellectual property, copyright, or other rights.

3. Discussions, posts, and replies — Approved Members only

Member Discussions are intended for thoughtful, relevant professional and community exchange. Members may share questions, announcements, opportunities, resources, events, and perspectives related to IPLP’s mission and community.

When creating a post or reply:

  • Keep the subject relevant and provide enough context for others to participate constructively.
  • Engage with ideas respectfully; disagree without personal attacks.
  • Do not derail discussions, repeatedly post the same content, or use replies to pressure, target, or shame others.
  • Do not share someone else’s private communications, contact information, images, or personal circumstances without permission.
  • Do not present legal, medical, financial, academic, or professional advice as official advice from IPLP, the College of Law, or the University of Arizona unless you are expressly authorized to do so.
  • Respect Indigenous data sovereignty and cultural protocols. Do not upload, quote, reproduce, distribute, or request culturally sensitive, ceremonial, traditional, community-owned, or restricted knowledge unless you have clear authority and consent.

Posts and replies may be removed when they violate these Guidelines or create a safety, privacy, legal, or community concern.

4. Direct messaging — Approved Members only

Direct messaging is provided for respectful, relevant person-to-person communication among Approved Members.

Members must not use messaging to:

  • Send unwanted, repeated, coercive, sexual, threatening, or harassing communications.
  • Contact someone after they have asked you to stop.
  • Request passwords, authentication codes, financial information, or other sensitive personal information.
  • Share confidential files, private records, student information, or community-sensitive material without authorization.
  • Send commercial solicitations, scams, malware, mass messages, or chain messages.
  • Impersonate another person or claim an affiliation, authority, or endorsement you do not have.

A message may be reported through the App or to IPLP support. Reporting a message does not guarantee a particular outcome, but IPLP may review it under its applicable processes.

5. Profile information and identity

Profiles help community members recognize and connect with one another. Profile information must be accurate, respectful, and appropriate for a professional community.

Approved Members may maintain their member profile, including applicable fields such as display name, username, profile photo, cover image, biography, current position, tribal affiliation, and other professional or educational information made available in the App.

All users must:

  • Use a name and profile identity that do not misrepresent who they are.
  • Avoid impersonating a person, organization, Tribal Nation, or University unit.
  • Use profile photos and cover images that are appropriate, non-explicit, non-harassing, and that you have the right to use.
  • Obtain permission before using another person’s photograph or identifying information.
  • Avoid posting sensitive personal information in a public-facing profile.
  • Represent tribal affiliation and community relationships accurately and respectfully; do not claim affiliation, authority, or representation without a basis to do so.

6. Guest profile limits

Guest accounts are intended for limited access to public App content. Guests may edit only the profile information made available to them, including:

  • Display Name
  • Biography
  • Tribal affiliation

Guests may not use member-only community features, including Discussions, posts, replies, direct messaging, profile photos, or cover images, unless their account is approved and granted Member access.

7. Reporting concerns and enforcement

If you encounter content, a profile, post, reply, or message that may violate these Guidelines, please use the in-App reporting option where available or contact IPLP support at Law-IPLP@arizona.edu.

IPLP may review reported content and may take action appropriate to the situation, including:

  • Removing or limiting access to content.
  • Requesting profile or content changes.
  • Restricting feature access.
  • Temporarily suspending or permanently disabling an account.
  • Referring serious concerns through applicable University, legal, safety, or compliance processes.

Actions may be taken to protect users, communities, privacy, safety, and the integrity of the IPLP App.

8. Your responsibility

By using the IPLP App, you are responsible for your content, communications, and profile information. Please use the App in a way that strengthens a respectful, trustworthy, and collaborative IPLP community.
